A trio of Island women were celebrated at the PEI Book Awards on Wednesday night in Charlottetown. PEI Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson oversaw the presentation of the awards in the categories of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction.

The winners are:

Poetry
Dianne Hicks Morrow, What Really Happened Is This (Acorn Press)

Fiction
Patti Larsen, Run (self-published)

Non-fiction

In addition to a cash award, recipients received a commemorative handcrafted artwork inspired by Island authors Lucy Maud Montgomery, Milton Acorn, and Joseph Sherman.

The judges for the competition were Grace Dawson, literacy and public services librarian; Ann Thurlow, editor and journalist; and Nancy Smitheram, educator.

The PEI Book Awards are held biannually to recognize and promote the work of authors, editors, and book producers residing in the province.
