The Ontario Library Association has announced the shortlist for its 2013 Evergreen Award. Selected by a committee of Ontario librarians, the award honours the best in adult Canadian fiction and non-fiction.

The nominees for this year’s award are:

• Intolerable: A Memoir of Extremes, Kamal Al-Solaylee (HarperCollins Canada)
• Tell It to the Trees, Anita Rau Badami (Knopf Canada)
• The Deception of Livvy Higgs, Donna Morrissey (Viking Canada)
• The Little Shadows, Marina Endicott (Doubleday Canada)
• The Western Light, Susan Swan (Cormorant Books)
• The Winter Palace, Eva Stachniak (Doubleday Canada)
• Triggers, Robert J. Sawyer (Viking Canada)
• Up and Down, Terry Fallis (McClelland & Stewart)

Library-goers can vote for their favourite during Ontario Public Library Week in October. The winner will be announced in November, and the award presented at the next OLA Superconference in February 2014. Last year, the award was given to former Toronto Star columnist Linwood Barclay for The Accident.
