Comic-Con International is known for showcasing comic books, fantasy novels, and pop culture material, but this past weekend the San Diego convention also hosted several prominent industry awards.

On Friday, the annual Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards were presented at a gala ceremony. Nova Scotia writer and artist Darwyn Cooke won an award for best adaptation from another medium for the third instalment in his series, Richard Stark’s Parker: The Score (IDW Publishing). The series began in 2009 when Cooke adapted the Donald Westlake novel The Hunter into Richard Stark’s Parker: The Hunter.

The International Association of Media Tie-In Writers presented the Scribe Awards on the weekend as well. Kevin J. Anderson won in the adapted novel category for Clockwork Angels (ECW Press), based on the album by Rush. Anderson collaborated on the novel with Rush drummer and lyricist Neil Peart.

The Scribe Awards honour licensed works that tie in with other media such as television, movies, gaming, or comic books.
