The Writers’ Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador has announced the finalists for the 2013 Heritage and History Book Awards in the categories of non-fiction and poetry. The awards, which honour works that “exemplify excellence in the interpretation of the history and heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador,” alternate between poetry and non-fiction one year, and children’s/YA books the following year.
The non-fiction nominees are:
Patricia Grattan, City Seen: Artists’ Views of St. John’s 1785″“2010 (WinterPlace Projects)
George Gregoire, Walk With My Shadow (Creative Book Publishing)
Shannon Ryan, A History of Newfoundland in the North Atlantic to 1818 (Flanker Press)
The poetry nominees are:
Mark Callanan, Gift Horse (Véhicule Press)
Robin Durnford, A Lovely Gutting (McGill-Queen’s University Press)
Shortlisted authors will read from their work Dec. 10 at the Ship Pub in St. John’s, where the winners will be announced.
