Faith Erin Hicks, Darwyn Cooke, Chip Zdarsky win Eisner comic awards

Faith Erin HicksHalifax graphic novelist Faith Erin Hicks has won her first Will Eisner Comic Industry Award.

Hicks’s The Adventures of Superhero Girl was named best kids’ publication (ages 8–12) at the San Diego Comic-Con gala on July 25.

According to the L.A. Times, Hicks “choked back tears and said, ‘I’m sorry – comics are very difficult for me to make, and this is proof that the work that I do is good.’”

Fellow Nova Scotian Darwyn Cooke nabbed best adaptation and best lettering awards for his work on Richard Stark’s Parker: Slayground.

Toronto artist Chip Zdarsky (a.k.a. Steve Murray) received the best new series award for Sex Criminals, written by Matt Fraction.
