Quebec Writers’ Federation releases literary award shortlists

The Quebec Writers’ Federation has revealed the shortlists for the 2014 QWF Literary Awards, which will be handed out at a gala in Montreal on Nov. 18. The theme of the event, to be hosted by author Merilyn Simonds, is “celebrating great women of words.”

The awards recognize English-language writing in Quebec, with winners in each of the six categories receiving $2,000. The shortlisted titles were selected by a panel of judges, including Anakana Schofield, Johanna Skibsrud, Sue Goyette, and Robert Priest.

Jon Paul Fiorentino, Sean Michaels, and Monique Polak scored two spots apiece across the categories.

The shortlists are:

Concordia University First Book Prize

Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction

Mavis Gallant Prize for Non-fiction
