Steve PaikinTVO host and journalist Steve Paikin was announced the winner of the 2014 Speaker’s Book Award for Paikin and the Premiers: Personal Reflections on a Half Century of Ontario Leaders (Dundurn Press) at a ceremony in Toronto’s Queen’s Park on March 9.

Paikin and the Premiers is a collection of Paikin’s one-on-one interviews with Ontario premiers including Dalton McGuinty, Kathleen Wynne, Mike Harris, Frank Miller, and Bill Davis.

The award, hosted by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, honours titles by Ontario authors that are evocative of the province’s people and history.

On the judging panel for the 2014 award were Sun Media and Newstalk journalist Lorrie Goldstein, political writer and King’s University College instructor Sid Noel, former premier and Ontario legislative member Hon. David R. Peterson, author and former ministry policy advisor and economist Randall White, and legislative librarian Vicki Whitmell.

Dundurn president Kirk Howard says in a press release:

This is a terrific achievement for Steve, and further recognition of his steadfast dedication to documenting the key figures, decisions, and debates that comprise Ontario’s rich political life. It’s also an important affirmation of our publishing program’s continued efforts to celebrate and preserve this province’s past.
