The Sunburst Awards, the juried annual prizes recognizing the best Canadian literature of the fantastic, will see the addition of a short-story category this year.
Fiction up to 7,500 words published in an anthology, magazine, collection, or online is eligible (non-paying markets qualify). Multiple stories within a single collection can also be submitted. Genres under the “fantastic” umbrella include fantasy, science-fiction, magic realist, speculative, supernatural horror, surrealist, and fabulist.
The submission deadline for the 2016 awards is Jan. 31. The winner, who will receive $500 and a Sunburst medallion, will be announced in the fall.
