The Canada Council for the Arts has released a statement reiterating its stance against sexual harassment and misconduct in the workplace. Although no specifics of the plan were shared, the statement says, “We’re currently reviewing our granting policies to ensure that there are adequate provisions which allow us to fairly and more effectively address situations which involve artists or organizations receiving Canada Council funding.”
The statement follows news this week that four women have filed civil lawsuits against Toronto’s Soulpepper Theatre Company and artistic director Albert Schultz for sexual assault and harassment. Schultz has since resigned.
