Books of the Year 2010: Covers of the Year

Goya’s Dog
by Damian Tarnopolsky (Penguin Canada)
Cover design by David Gee

An image of a fox, not a dog, was used for the hardcover edition of this novel. For the earlier edition, David Gee close-cropped the fox and overlaid it on a photograph. The image on the paperback shows the silhouette of the fox “ literal negative space. Although this design is entirely different from that of the earlier edition, it also retains a connection to it. The type treatment is really nice as well. “ David Drummond, owner of Salamander Hill Design
