- Candace Savage blurbed James Daschuk's Clearing the Plains, calling it a book that all Canadians need to read. It appears many have taken up the challenge. The book, published by the recently relaunched University of Regina Press, describes the deplorable conditions imposed on Plains natives via the policies of John A. Macdonald.

The book sold well at the University of Regina Bookstore, but it also became the second highest selling non-fiction book at Toronto's Another Story Book Shop.
Some well-timed publicity for Ted Barris's latest book, including a on-on-one interview with CBC's Peter Mansbridge, had a significant impact on sales. There is never enough in stock, says BookLore owner Nancy Frater. That's the power of an interview on CBC “ plus, of course, it's a story that has meaning to a lot of families.

- It should come as little surprise that the much-buzzed about book by astronaut Chris Hadfield topped most booksellers' bestselling non-fiction lists. Hadfield's well-attended signings across the country moved thousands of copies at independent bookshops like Burlington's A Different Drummer Books. After selling 1,500 copies of Life on Earth at a signing in Sarnia, The Book Keeper owner Susan Chamberlain told Q&Q, "This will make our year."

Bolen Books manager Colin Holt adds, "The excitement around the Hadfield book has been universal, from young to old, people that we see all the time in the store to those that may only read a book a year. It has been a treat to sell to people because of the excitement around it, and having him in our store for a signing was an amazing experience."
