Nicholas Hoare to close Ottawa and Montreal locations

The Globe and Mail reports that bookstore mini-chain Nicholas Hoare is planning on closing its Ottawa and Montreal locations in April.

When contacted by The Globe, Nicholas Hoare, owner of the eponymous retail chain, would not confirm the closures, only saying, “We’re still cleaning up the fine ends and bits and pieces that we’ve got down here.

In 1988, Hoare opened a shop in the basement of Montreal’s Ogilvy’s department store (which closed in 2006), followed by a location in the city’s Westmount neighbourhood. The Ottawa bookshop, housed in a historic property on Sussex Drive, opened in 1994.

There is no word about how the reported closures will affect Nicholas Hoare’s Toronto store.
