Illustrator Sydney Smith has been named winner of the International Board on Books for Young People’s 2016 Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Canadian Picture Book Award for Sidewalk Flowers (Groundwood Books), created in collaboration with author JonArno Lawson. Sidewalk Flowers has received much acclaim since its publication last year, including a Governor General’s Literary Award and a place on the New York Times 2015 list of best illustrated children’s books.

Smith’s next book, Look Out For the Fitzgerald-Trouts, written by Esta Spalding, is due from Tundra Books in May.
