Toronto-based plasticine artist and picture-book creator Barbara Reid has been chosen as the honorary chair of next year’s family literacy day.
Founded by non-profit ABC Life Literacy Canada, the Jan. 27 event aims to promote and celebrate literacy learning in schools, libraries, and learning centres across the country.
Reid will participate in a variety of activities associated with Family Literacy Day, including a tweet chat with fans and issuing her own list of literacy tips.
Reid said in a press release:
I am thrilled to be the 2016 Family Literacy Day honourary chair. Through my work as an author and illustrator I encourage reading and literacy engagement. Families reading and playing together is an important theme that I often include in my books. I have been participating in Family Literacy Day events for many years now and I look forward to increasing my participation in this exciting new role.
