Ijeoma Oluo, Casey Plett, Silvia Moreno-Garcia among lineup for second annual Growing Room festival

Growing Room, the Vancouver-based feminist literary festival organized by Room magazine, is returning for a second year this March. The lineup features more than 50 authors, including Amber Dawn, Caroline Adderson, Carleigh Baker, Gurjinder Basran, Ijeoma Oluo, Gwen Benaway, Maggie de Vries, Farzana Doctor, Casey Plett, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Emily Pohl-Weary, and Chelsea Rooney.

Last year’s inaugural fest attracted more than 500 attendees to 24 events. This year’s festival, running March 1–4, includes 18 panels, nine readings and workshops, and a live recording of Room’s new podcast, Fainting Couch Feminists. The opening-night party features music by Too Attached (Vivek Shraya and Shamik Shraya). Low-cost literary consultations with editors and writing mentors Anna Ling Kaye, Chelene Knight, Jen Sookfong Lee, and Adèle Barclay will also be offered.

The full lineup and schedule will be announced Jan. 15, with registration opening Feb. 1. Panels and readings are by donation (with the option of free attendance). Workshops cost $15–$20. Tickets to the opening party are $15.
