Book trailer screens in front of The Hobbit

Despite generally lacklustre reviews, Peter Jackson’s adaptation of (the first third or so of) J.R.R. Tolkein’s The Hobbit was the undisputed box office champion this weekend, raking in an estimated $84.8 million in its first three days. That handily surpasses the December record set by the Will Smith vehicle I Am Legend in 2007. (Quillblog would like to note that both films are adaptations of books.)

Expectations were high for the new Middle-earth saga, and at least one publisher used the opportunity to do a bit of off-the-book-pages promotion.

According to Galleycat, Tor/Forge Books played a trailer for the latest instalment in Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson’s Wheel of Time series. Selected theatres screened the trailer for A Memory of Light, the 14th and final book in the series, which is to be released on Jan. 8. From Galleycat:

Tor Books has set a January 2013 release for the final Wheel of Time book. Jordan died in 2007, and Sanderson used his notes to finish the series over the last five years, publishing The Gathering Storm in 2009 and Towers of Midnight in 2010.
