Here’s our current opening:

Position: Advertising and Graphic Design Coordinator

Reports to: Marketing Manager, Social Science

Division: Book Publishing

Location: 800 Bay Street*

* For this position, we currently have the option of working totally remotely or in a hybrid model. However, this position may initially require some in-office time mixed with work from home during the onboarding phase.

Here’s what you’ll be doing….

You’ll manage advertising in a variety of media (including print, digital, and social media) that gives a wide exposure to UTP and our books, while achieving budget goals and incorporating new branding initiatives. You’ll provide support to the Marketing Team and will successfully create digital content in support of the marketing initiatives. Scope of responsibilities include, but are not limited to: design and production of print and digital ads and collateral materials.

Key responsibilities:

• Create and design marketing materials that champion our books and authors
• Responsible for design layout and writing creative ad copy
• Research and recommend new venues for print and digital advertising
• Arrange and negotiate ad contracts
• Track expenditure in relation to annual advertising budget
• Maintain advertising schedule and database of marketing materials for title & author reference
• Lead regular advertising meetings to plan monthly content, communicate advertising deadlines and special issues to marketing managers
• Design printed and digital assets for conferences and exhibits, and order & schedule collateral for events in a timely manner
• Participate in weekly marketing meetings, brainstorm ideas for title promotional plans and coordinate with various internal stakeholders to develop content

Here’s what we are looking for:

Education, Qualifications, and Experience:

• Post-secondary graduate, or equivalent combination of education/experience - with focus in any of the following: Marketing, Publicity, Publishing or Graphic Design
• 2-3 years of graphic design experience
• Completion of book publishing courses or certificate an asset

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

• High level of proficiency with design software (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier Pro and Adobe Creative Suite)
• Able to collaborate on teams, meet design standards and deadlines with a high level of organization
• Video production experience; experience producing video trailers
• Assist with organizing creative product photography
• Provide strategic, creative and out-of-the-box thinking
• Excellent time management and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage a large workload
• Excellent cross functional team capabilities

The Book Publishing Division has a staff of over 40 full-time and contract employees and operates out of 800 Bay Street, Toronto. With the publication of influential authors and award-winning research, as well as a continuing dedication to groundbreaking new scholarship and innovative texts, UTP has firmly established its reputation for excellence.
