Position: Sales and Marketing Intern (12-wk paid internship)

Reports to: Senior Marketing Manager

Division: Book Publishing

Location: Ontario (remote/hybrid)

Here’s what you’ll be doing….

During this 12-week internship, you will gain valuable knowledge about the Canadian book publishing industry, with a particular focus on sales and marketing. Each week, you will work closely with experienced members of our sales and marketing team, tackling projects such as preparing for trade sales presentations, building digital marketing campaigns around specific books, and assisting in advertising and publicity plans for forthcoming titles. In addition, we will ensure that you are exposed to and interact with other departments and areas of book publishing, such as editorial and production. The successful candidate will acquire a range of valuable skills and experiences and should finish the internship with a clear understanding of what a career in book publishing entails.

Key responsibilities:

• Assist in preparing materials for presentations to sales teams
• Attend virtual sales meetings with agents and distributors in Canada and the United States
• Build seasonal and themed digital catalogues in digital sales platforms such as CataList, Bookmanager, and Edelweiss
• Add premium content to Amazon.com and Amazon.ca book pages for key titles

Digital Marketing:
• Build website landing pages to help promote sales and seasonal promotions
• Write social media copy for a select number of books, organize relevant assets, and then build out and schedule these social media campaigns and report on campaign metrics
• Assist with building and promoting an Instagram Shop and mobile marketplace
• Assemble book slideshow videos for YouTube in select subject areas
• Write and/or curate a series of blog posts around specific books; contribute a series of blog posts about the internship experience
• Assist with metadata entry and corrections for a select list of titles

• Research and assemble robust media contact lists around key titles for upcoming seasons
• Build lists of influencers and relevant podcasts around key titles for upcoming seasons
• Assist with organizing virtual and in-person book launches

Book Reviews and Awards:
• Read through published book reviews and pull out useful excerpts for promotional purposes
• Craft entries for book award submissions
• Work with our distributor to send out books for review and award consideration

• Craft copy for advertising campaigns
• Work with our graphic designer to brainstorm creative concepts for book trailers
• Conduct outreach to emerging advertising outlets

• Assist in selecting relevant booklists for display and promotion at conferences, industry events, and exhibits
• Assist in building out virtual display booths

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and an ability to learn new online software and apps
• Enrolled in/completion of a post-secondary program at the college or university level, or equivalent work experience
