In the same vein as the hugely popular Politically Correct Bedtime Stories for Adults comes a Canadian version. The Ark in the Garden and Other Fables for Our Times, collected by anthologist Alberto Manguel, is a witty, slightly sardonic collection of stories by well-known Canadian authors. None shy away from political commentary – Margaret Atwood’s “A Christmas Lorac,” is about a destructive Ebenezer Scrooge in Tory Ontario, while Timothy Findley’s “The Ark in the Garden” is about a man named Noah’s attempts to join the chosen few aboard an ark that magically appears in his backyard. Stories by Jane Urquhart, Rohinton Mistry, Yves Beauchemin, and Neil Bissoondath round out the collection.
