Historian Ada Ferrer to chair 2025 Cundill Prize jury

Ada Ferrer

Ada Ferrer, a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian of Latin America and the Caribbean, has been named chair of the 2025 Cundill History Prize jury.

Ferrer, who was born in Cuba and based in the U.S., was a finalist for the prize in 2022 for Cuba: An American History. She is Dayton-Stockton Professor of History at Princeton University.

Submissions for this year’s prize are open until Feb. 28.

Founded by McGill University alumnus F. Peter Cundill, the prize is administered by the Office of the Dean in the Faculty of Arts at McGill University and is awarded annually to a book that embodies historical scholarship, originality, literary quality, and broad appeal.

Ferrer’s fellow jurors will be revealed in April, with the shortlist and finalists to be announced in September. The winner of this year’s $75,000 (U.S.) prize will be announced in October in Montreal.
