Canadian poet Karen Solie and U.S.-based St.Lucian-Canadian poet Catherine-Esther Cowie are among the 19 writers shortlisted for the 2025 Forward Prizes for Poetry.
The annual awards, which celebrate new poetry in the U.K. and Ireland, were first awarded in 1992.
Karen Solie has been shortlisted for the £10,000 ($18,378) Forward Prize for Best Collection for Wellwater, published in the U.K. by Picador (and in Canada by House of Anansi Press).
Catherine-Esther Cowie has been shortlisted for the £5,000 ($9,188) Jerwood Prize for Best First Collection for Heirloom, published in the U.K. by Carcanet.
The shortlists for the four prizes were announced earlier this month.
The jury for this year’s prizes is comprised of chair Sarah Hall and poets Lisa Kelly, Hannah Lavery, Sean O’Brien, and Rommi Smith. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Oct. 26.
