Clémence Dumas-Côté wins Joseph S. Stauffer Prize for literature

Clémence Dumas-Côté has been named the winner of the 2026 Joseph S. Stauffer Prize for literature.

Based in Quebec’s Eastern Townships, Dumas-Côté is the author of four poetry collections and one novel. She is published by Éditions Les Herbes rouges, and her poetry collection The Seated Woman was published in translation by House of Anansi Press in 2025.

The annual Joseph S. Stauffer Prizes, administered by the Canada Council, are awarded to emerging or mid-career artists who stand out for their strong artistic potential in their respective disciplines of literature, music, and visual arts. This year, the prize for music went to Aquakultre, and the visual arts prize to Kosisochukwu Nnebe.

Each winner receives up to a $5,000 prize.
