Eva Crocker, Christine Estima, Katie Munnick (MariePalbom Photography), and Maria Reva (Anya Chibis) have been named Berton House writers in residence.

Four writers have been named the next writers in residence at Pierre Berton House in Dawson City, Yukon.

The residency program, administered by the Writers’ Trust of Canada, offers writers a two-month stay in Pierre Berton’s childhood home, along with a $4,000 stipend.

Novelist and short story writer Eva Crocker, novelist and short story writer Christine Estima, writer and poet Katie Munnik, and award-winning novelist and short story writer Maria Reva have been named the next four writers who will occupy the post.

The selected writers were chosen by a jury comprised of Yukon writer Louise Dumayne and past writers-in-residence Gord Grisenthwaite and Manjushree Thapa.

Berton House has operated as a writers’ residency since 1996, and has been owned and operated by the Writers’ Trust, which Berton himself co-founded, since 2007. More than 100 writers have spent time there as writers in residence. The program relaunched in 2022 after pausing for the pandemic and then for renovations to the house. Last year, the Writers’ Trust announced a five-year, $50,000 investment in the program by the Lind Family Foundation. This is the second year of that $10,000 annual investment.
