Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize amount doubles to $50,000

Starting this year, the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize is doubling its purse from $25,000 to $50,000 for the winning author. Each of the four finalists for the prestigious prize will also receive $5,000, up from $2,500 in previous years.

The shortlist for this year’s prize will be announced Sept. 27, with the winner named at a ceremony at Toronto’s Glenn Gould Studio on Nov. 14. In addition to the fiction prize, the Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Non-fiction and the Writers’ Trust/McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize will be presented that night. Four prizes representing a body of work will also be handed out: the Latner Writers’ Trust Poetry Prize; the Matt Cohen Award: In Celebration of a Writing Life; the Vicky Metcalf Award for Literature for Young People; and the Writers’ Trust Engel/Findley Award, representing a total purse of more than $250,000.
