Catherine Leroux wins 2017 John Glassco prize

Leroux and jury chair Sonya Malaborza

The Literary Translators’ Association of Canada has named Catherine Leroux the winner of this year’s John Glassco Literary Translation Prize, given for the best translation into English or French.

The Montreal author was recognized for Corps conducteurs (Éditions Alto), her French translation of Sean Michaels’s Scotiabank Giller Prize–winning novel, Us Conductors (Vintage Canada).

“Leroux has crafted a lively translation full of beautiful prose delivered in an elegant and believable vernacular similar to the one used in Lev Termen’s semi-fictional universe,” the jury says in a press release.

Leroux received her $1,000 award at an LTAC/festival international de la littérature event in Montreal on Oct. 2.
