What You’ll Do:

• Identify, acquire, develop, and advance manuscripts for publication by the University of Regina Press.
• Work with authors, Series Editors, and URPress Team to assess projects and guide manuscripts from acquisition through publication readiness.
• Provide developmental editing, coordinates peer review and ensures manuscripts meet the scholarly, editorial, contractual, andproduction requirements of the Press.
• Contribute to strategic list development, author relations, publication planning, contracts, and cross functional collaboration with production, sales, marketing, and administrative staff.
• Support the publication of scholarly, literary nonfiction, poetry, graphic novel, and trade titles, particularly in Canadian Studies, Indigenous Studies, Environmental Studies, and other areas within the humanities and social sciences.

What are your responsibilities:

• Manuscript Development and Editorial Stewardship:

o Assess proposals and manuscripts for quality, audience, publishing potential, legal/ethical risks, and program fit.
o Provide developmental editorial guidance and help authors respond to peer-review feedback.
o Coordinate peer reviewers, translators, sensitivity/cultural consultations, indexing, and other specialized services.
o Present projects to the Faculty Publications Board and make recommendations on development and publication.
o Prepare and support applications for scholarly publishing and arts funding and grants.

• Acquisition and List Development

o Meet with authors and Series Editors to evaluate potential projects and publishing opportunities.
o Manage proposal intake and maintain communication with prospective authors.
o Identify gaps in the publishing program and research potential authors, subject areas, and Series Editors.
o Develop and expand publishing lists and book series.
o Present proposals to the editorial team and recommend acquisition decisions.

• Author Relations, Outreach and Publishing Partnerships

o Build strong relationships with authors, Series Editors, and publishing stakeholders.
o Guide authors through the acquisition and publishing process.
o Represent the Press at conferences, festivals, community events, presentations, and other public activities.
o Manage book sales and transactions at events.

• Editorial Operations and Contract Administration

o Prepare author contracts and contributor agreements.
o Develop project budgets and profit-and-loss analyses.
o Maintain editorial schedules, project records, reviewer databases, and tracking systems.
o Provide regular updates on acquisitions, projects, schedules, and priorities.

• Publication Planning and Editorial Coordination

o Work with the Press team on editorial, production, design, market positioning, funding, and publication planning.
o Contribute to title positioning, promotional strategies, and book launch plans.
o Draft and edit catalogs, jacket copy, author biographies, endorsements, and other marketing materials.
o Participate in seasonal and long-term publishing planning.

Position Requirements:

What You Will Bring to the Position:

• Master’s degree in the Humanities, Social Sciences, English, Creative Writing, Publishing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field;
• Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in scholarly, literary, educational, or trade publishing, including acquisitions, manuscript development, peer review administration, project management, and author relations.
• Equivalent combinations of education and extensive publishing experience may be considered.

• Experience with grant applications is preferred.
• Familiarity with Canada’s literary and publishing landscape is considered an asset.

* Willingness and ability to travel to conferences within Canada and internationally (primarily to the United States).

*Ability to work extended hours as required to support events and meet high-priority deadlines.
