Are you a proactive, detail-driven individual who likes helping to strengthen and grow businesses with data analysis and strategy? Dundurn Press is looking for a Metadata and Inventory Associate to join the company, supporting the team with inventory management and creating, managing, and finessing our metadata and analytics systems. This is a role for someone with a keen interest in supporting your colleagues with excellence.
Reporting to the Publisher and Chief Financial Officer, this two-part role is a full-time hybrid position that will include a minimum of two (2) days per week at Dundurn Press’s Leslieville office.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
METADATA
- Ensure metadata records are accurate and updated when required:
- Support the Sales and Marketing team with metadata updates for catalogues and other materials and activities as requested
- Support the Editorial and Production team with timely metadata change requests, Cataloging In Publication (CIP), and ISBN orders, Library and Archives Canada (LAC) submissions, and other activities as requested
- Support Finance/Accounting with inventory and metadata reports on request
- Action regular updates and modifications to metadata to meet sales and other deadlines, catalogue production, and to ensure metadata feeds are accurate and up to date at all times
- Handle associated tasks in a systematic and reliable fashion (e.g. price changes, ISBN updates, etc.)
- Systematize a house style for metadata based on onix best practices to encourage discoverability and sales revenue growth
- Directly communicate and liaise with ebook distributors for assets management and fulfillment efficiency
- Ensure metadata feeds to print distributors, ebook distributors, the web development team, and others, are submitted with accuracy and without errors
INVENTORY
- Action ongoing inventory management tasks, including daily view, reprints under consideration, reprints in progress, titles at risk, bulk order requests, etc according to inventory, sales profile by title, and company-directed printing requirements to meet sales and other deadlines
- Directly communicate and liaise with book distributors for inventory management and fulfillment efficiency
- Manage inventory and logistics matters at various warehouses maintained by 3rd party fulfillment providers
- Manage consolidated shipments between warehouses and providers for both new publications and backlist titles
- Reconcile print on demand orders and invoices and liaise with POD vendor(s) to understand and resolve supply, billing, set-up or other issues
- Support true print on demand economic analysis and title set-up
- As part of a team, determine target inventory levels for publications by region and manage third party provider inventory issues
- Manage print-to-order and pulp-on-return status for existing titles with third party fulfillment providers
- Manage ecommerce and direct sale order logistics as needed, including issue resolution
GENERAL
- Proactively address potential issues, troubleshoot, and flag risk considerations to the Publisher and Chief Financial Officer
- Other tasks as assigned
The ideal candidate for this position has skills and experience in the following areas:
- Proactive attention to detail
- Inventory management and analysis
- Metadata management and Onix best practices
- Web development and backend website maintenance
- Working independently, completing tasks in support of the team and the company overall
- Understanding the unique nature and needs of the publishing industry in North America
- Working with a variety of integrated and partially-integrated digital workspace environments including Google Workspace, BooksOnix, DropBox, knowledge of HTML and website management, etc
This is a full time position with a benefits package available following a successful probationary period. Annual salary in the range of $45,000-$50,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.
