Ten books have been shortlisted for the 2025 Sunburst Award for Canadian Literature of the Fantastic.
This year marks a return of the annual $3,000 award after a four-year hiatus. Jurors Natalee Caple, Geoff Ryman, and Lorina Stephens selected the longlisted titles from the 78 books submitted.
The longlisted books are:

- William by Mason Coile (G.P. Putnam’s Sons/Penguin Random House)
- The Years Shall Run Like Rabbits by Ben Berman Ghan (Buckrider Books/Wolsak & Wynn Publishers)
- Bird Suit by Sydney Hegele (Invisible Publishing)
- Blackheart Man by Nalo Hopkinson (Saga Press/Simon & Schuster)
- Code Noir by Canisia Lubrin (Knopf Canada/Penguin Random House Canada)
- Dayspring by Anthony Oliveira (Strange Light/Penguin Random House Canada)
- The Capital of Dreams by Heather O’Neill (HarperCollins Canada)
- The Downloaded by Robert J. Sawyer (Shadowpaw Press)
- A Seal of Salvage by Clayton B. Smith (Breakwater Books)
A shortlist will be announced in July, with the winner to be named in the fall.
