2022 Kobzar Book Award shortlist announced

Kobzar Book Award finalists

Three books have been named finalists for the 2022 Kobzar Book Award.

The $25,000 award is presented biennially by the Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Taras Shevchenko to a Canadian book with a connection to the experiences of Ukrainian Canadians.

The finalists for the award are:

  • Enemy Alien: A True Story of Life Behind Barbed Wire, by Kassandra Luciuk and illustrated by nicole marie burton (Between the Lines)
  • Fields of Light and Stone, by Angeline Schellenberg (University of Alberta Press)
  • Good Citizens Need Not Fear, by Maria Reva (Knopf Canada)

The jury for this year’s award is comprised of Kerry Clare of 49th Shelf, author and Kobzar winner Laisha Rosnau, and Winnipeg Free Press journalist Ben Sigurdson.

The winner will be announced at a ceremony in Winnipeg on March 24.
