The Ontario Library Association (OLA) and the Forest of Reading have announced the winners of the 2025 Forest of Reading Awards.
The two-day event, which had an in-person and digital component, was hosted by Hamilton teen and book-club host Ainara Alleyne.
The winners are:
Blue Spruce Award
Lost Stick by Anoosha Syed (Viking Books for Young Readers/Penguin Random House)
Silver Birch Express Award
Lost & Found: Based on a True Story by Mei Yu (Union Square Kids/Hachette Book Group)
Silver Birch Fiction Award
The Legendary Mo Seto 01 by A. Y. Chan (Aladdin/Simon & Schuster)
Yellow Cedar Award
Haunted Canada Graphic Novel 01: Four Terrifying Tales by Joel A. Sutherland (Scholastic Canada)
Red Maple Award
40 Days in Hicksville by Christina Kilbourne (DCB Young Readers/Cormorant Books)
White Pine Award
The Space Between Here & Now by Sarah Suk (Quill Tree Books/HarperCollins Canada)
Almost 145,000 children read the nominated books, which included Canadian fiction and nonfiction books by English and French-language authors. More than 118,000 kids voted this year across nine programs.
The winners of the French-language Forest of Reading programs (Le prix Peuplier, Le prix Mélèze, and Le prix Tamarac) will be announced on May 15 at Fête de la Forêt de la lecture.
