Amanda Peters wins 2024 Andrew Carnegie Medal

Novelist Amanda Peters has won the 2024 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction for The Berry Pickers.

Peters’s debut novel was one of three books shortlisted for the prize. Fellow Canadians Christina Wong and Daniel Innes were also on the shortlist for their book Denison Avenue.

The Berry Pickers, which tells the story of a Mik’Maw family that is berry picking in Maine in 1962 when their youngest child disappears, was also a finalist for the 2023 Atwood-Gibson Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize.

The winners of the Carnegie medals for fiction and nonfiction were announced at the ALA Reference and User Services Association’s Book and Media Awards in Baltimore, Maryland, on January 20. Winners receive $5,000.
