Anvil Press launches new surrealist poetry imprint

PrintVancouver independent publisher Anvil Press has announced the launch of A Feed Dog Book, a new poetry imprint led by Ontario-based poet, author and editor Stuart Ross. The imprint will specialize in surrealist and post-surrealist titles.

Ross is no stranger to Anvil, which has published five of his books. In a press release, Ross says the Feed Dog tone will be set with its first release, Toronto poet Steve Venright’s The Least You Can Do Is Be Magnificent: Selected & New Writings, a collection assembled by Canadian-American poet and scholar Alessandro Porco. Ross previously published Venright – whom he calls “Canada’s most pure and funniest surrealist” – at Mansfield Press, where he ran an eponymous poetry imprint from 2007 to 2016.

Feed Dog is expected to release two books per year. Anvil founder and publisher Brian Kaufman says in the release: “Stuart’s selections will be an energizing addition to our already compelling poetry program.”
