Five writers have been named to the shortlist of the 2024 Danuta Gleed Literary Award.
The prize, administered by the Writers’ Union of Canada, is awarded annually to three first collections of short fiction written in English. The winner receives $10,000 and two finalists each receive $1,000.
A jury comprised of Francine Cunningham, Kim Fu, and D.A. Lockhart determined the five-title shortlist from 33 submitted collections.
The shortlisted books are:
- Perfect Little Angels by Vincent Anioke (Arsenal Pulp Press)
- Coexistence by Billy-Ray Belcourt (Hamish Hamilton/Penguin Random House Canada)
- Death by a Thousand Cuts by Shashi Bhat (McClelland & Stewart/Penguin Random House Canada)
- Code Noir by Canisia Lubrin (Knopf Canada/Penguin Random House Canada)
- Smoke by Nicola Winstanley (Buckrider Books)
