British Columbia Historical Federation awards announced

Jennifer Bonnell has won the 2024 Lieutenant-Governor’s Medal for Historical Writing for Stewards of Splendour: A History of Wildlife and People in British Columbia published by the Royal British Columbia Museum. The prize, administered by the British Columbia Historical Federation is given to the author whose work in the previous year made “the most significant contribution to the historical literature of British Columbia.”

Second prize was awarded to Katherine Palmer Gordon for This Place is Who We Are: Stories of Indigenous Leadership, Resilience, and Connection to Homelands (Harbour Publishing) and third prize to Jonathan Swainger for The Notorious Georges: Crime and Community in British Columbia’s Northern Interior, 1905-25 (UBC Press). The Community History prize was awarded to Ellen Schwartz for Galena Bay Odyssey: Reflections of a Hippie Homesteader (Heritage House).
