Canadian readers continue to choose print over other formats according to BookNet study

Long live print: Canadian readers are reading more books in print than in any other format, according to a new study published by BookNet Canada.

The Turning Pages: Print Book Use in Canada 2023 report found that 92 per cent of Canadian readers read at least one print book in 2023 – more than any other format. Turning Pages also found that the majority of books purchased by Canadians – 79 per cent – were print books. The report is the first study to look exclusively at the behaviour of print book consumers.

The free report is based on both published and unreleased data from the Canadian Book Consumer Study 2023 and Canadian Reading and Leisure Study 2023, both conducted by BookNet Canada.

The report also found that print book buyers in 2023 made more of their purchases in person than online, with 53 per cent of print books purchased in a store compared to 47 per cent purchased online.
