Canadians among 2026 Eisner Award nominees

More than a dozen Canadian creators are among the comic writers and artists nominated for the 2026 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards.

The nomination lists for the annual awards in 32 categories were released on May 14. The winners will be named at a ceremony on July 24 in San Diego, California, during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Now in its 38th year the Eisner Awards  highlight the best publications and creators in graphic novels and comics available in the U.S.

Eric Zawadski is one of six creators to have garnered three nominations: one alongside Deniz Camp for Best One-Shot/Single Issue for Assorted Crisis Events #4 (Image); another alongside Deniz Camp for Best New Series for Assorted Crisis Events (Image); and a third for Best Penciller/Inker for Assorted Crisis Events.

Tate Brombal was nominated alongside Jacob Phillips for Everything Dead and Dying (Image) for Best Limited Series.

Michael Walsh was nominated in the Best New Series category alongside James Tynion IV, Pornsak Pichetshote, and others for Exquisite Corpses (Image).

Kelly Collier was nominated in the Best Publications for Early Readers category for Steve, A Rare Egg (Kids Can Press).

Mariko Tamaki was nominated in the Best Publication for Teens category alongside Nicole Goux for This Place Kills Me (Abrams Fanfare).

Guy Delisle was nominated in in Best Reality-Based Work, alongside Helge Daschert and Rob Aspinal, for Muybridge (Drawn & Quarterly), as was Julie Rocheleau, alongside Julian Voloj, for Globetrotters: Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland’s World Tour (Abrams ComicArts). Jibola Fagbamiye and Conor McCreery were also nominated in the category for Fela: Music Is the Weapon (Amistad).

Steven Scott was nominated alongside George Takei, Harmony Becker, Steven Scott, and Justin Eisinger in the Best Graphic Memoir category for It Rhymes with Takei (Top Shelf).

Lee Lai was nominated in the Best Graphic Album – New category for Cannon (Drawn & Quarterly), which is also nominated for the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction.

Joshua Barkman was nominated in the Best Humor Publication for Ew, It’s Beautiful: A False Knees Comics Collection  (Andrews McMeel Universal).

Meghan Kemp-Gee was nominated for Best Anthology for Come Out and Play: The Queer Sports Project (Stacked Deer Press) which she edited with  Megan Praz.

Sama Beck was nominated alongside Vita Ayala in the Best Adaptation from Another Medium category for Alanna: The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness, Book 1) by Tamora Pierce (Abrams Fanfare).

Kurtis Findlay was nominated for Best Publication Design for The Marvel Art of Michael Allred Slipcase Edition (Clover Press).

Christian Giroux was nominated for Best Webcomic for The Accidental Undergrad (Fieldmouse Press).
