For a limited time, visitors to Toronto’s Kimpton Saint George hotel can pick up a book by a Canadian author as part of their stay.
The Books for a Better Tomorrow initiative, on now through to Dec. 31, features the lobby’s shelves populated by a rotating cast of books of various genres by Canadian authors, curated by Toronto independent bookseller Type Books. The hotel is donating its 20% profits from book sales to an afterschool program of the Toronto Foundation for Student Success, a charity that supports students in the Toronto District School Board.
Titles offered for sale include Alex Neve’s Universal: Renewing Human Rights in a Fractured World, published by House of Anansi Press; Michael Ondaatje’s A Year of Last Things, published by McClelland & Stewart; Shawn Micallef’s Stroll, published by Coach House Books; Andre Alexis’s Other Worlds, published by McClelland & Stewart; Giller winner Souvankham Thammavongsa’s Pick a Colour, published by Knopf Canada; and Paul Covello’s Canada 123, published by HarperCollins Canada.
Correction, Nov. 20: This story has been updated from the original to reflect the correct spelling of Kimpton Saint George.
