At this year’s CCBC Book Awards ceremony, which took place on October 28, the Canadian Children’s Book Centre announced the establishment of a new award – the Sharon Fitzhenry Award for Canadian Children’s Non-Fiction for grades 4–12, which comes with a prize of $10,000.
Holly Doll, sister of former president & CEO of Fitzhenry & Whiteside Sharon Fitzhenry, launched the non-fiction prize, which will be awarded for the first time in 2025, and spoke of her sister’s legacy. “Sharon had a passion for Canadian publishing, with a special place in her heart for both non-fiction and children’s literature,” said Doll, CEO of Fitzhenry & Whiteside in the press release. “This award is the perfect way to keep her memory alive and to celebrate the books that she championed throughout her career.”
