Daily Deals: Freehand acquires Michelle Kaeser novel; Lezlie Lowe’s non-fiction on politics of public restrooms to Coach House

Freehand Books submissions coordinator Deborah Willis has acquired Canadian English-language rights to Vancouver writer Michelle Kaeser’s literary novel Tower of Babylon. Publication is slated for fall 2019. The deal was arranged by Carolyn Forde at Westwood Creative Artists.

Coach House Books editorial director Alana Wilcox has acquired world rights to Halifax author Lezlie Lowe’s No Place to Go: Answering the Call of Nature in the Urban Jungle, an investigation into the politics of public restrooms. The title will appear in fall 2018. The deal was arranged by Carolyn Forde at Westwood Creative Artists.

Penguin Canada associate publisher Nick Garrison has acquired How the Mosquito Made History, an exploration of the relationship between humanity and the flying pest by Timothy Winegard. The non-fiction title will publish in October 2019. The deal was arranged by Rick Broadhead at Rick Broadhead and Associates.

U.S.-based Grove Atlantic has acquired world rights to Toronto writer and photographer John Zada’s work of narrative non-fiction In The Valleys of the Noble Beyond: Travels in the Great Bear Rainforest in Search of the Sasquatch. Publication is planned for spring 2018. The deal was arranged by Carolyn Forde at Westwood Creative Artists.
