Editor’s note: Books for Young People editor news

Three years ago, we welcomed Shanda Deziel as our new Books for Young People editor just in time to take over our spring 2018 Kidlit Special issue. Not an ideal time to start, but Shanda jumped right in and embraced the challenge.

It must have been an overwhelming welcome but soon Shanda made the section her own. Curious and enthusiastic, with a journalist’s intuition and eye for detail (not to mention stellar organizational and writing skills), the Q&Q team is sad to see Shanda go, and we’ll miss her very much on our weekly Slack team meetings. But we are happy that she will remain in the St. Joseph Communications’ family as the new senior editor at Hello!.

Shanda’s last day is Dec. 4, just as we wrap up our Spring Preview issue – on newsstands in mid-December – featuring more than 100 of the season’s most anticipated titles. She also has a hand in our upcoming March Kidlit Special as an assigning editor and writer. Any questions about that issue can be directed to me at [email protected].

We are currently looking for a new Books for Young People editor. Check Q&Q’s job board for details. Please apply if you are passionate about Canadian children’s literature and want to contribute your editorial skills to our magazine.
