Eva Crocker wins $12,500 Winterset Award for Newfoundland and Labrador authors

Eva Crocker screenshotEva Crocker has won the $12,500 BMO Winterset Award for her debut novel All I Ask (House of Anansi Press). The award is presented for excellence in writing published in 2020 by a Newfoundland and Labrador author.

“I am so, so thrilled to be the recipient of this year’s Winterset honour,” Crocker said in an acceptance video. “I was very excited to be on the longlist alongside so many authors I admire. I think there were a ton of incredible books that came out this year in the province. I am very grateful to jurors and the Newfoundland Arts Council for their support of my work.”

Crocker was named a finalist alongside Bridget Canning for Some People’s Children (Breakwater Books) and Andrea Procter for A Long Journey: Residential Schools in Labrador and Newfoundland (ISER Books). Each finalist will receive $3,000.

The Winterset Award is administered by ArtsNL (the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council). The jury for the prize was comprised of Megan Gail Coles, Jamie Fitzpatrick, and Shannon Webb-Campbell.
