Pedlar Press was preparing for the release of Sister Language – a collaborative work featuring letters and other correspondences by sisters Martha and Christina Baillie – when they received terrible news.
According to a statement from Pedlar: “After decades of courageous struggle with schizophrenia, in August artist Christina Baillie chose to end her life. She had been eagerly looking forward to the launch of her collaborative work with Martha Baillie, Sister Language.”
An event to celebrate Christina’s life, hosted by Pedlar and Another Story Bookstore, will take place on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Tranzac Club in Toronto. The night will feature music, an interview with Martha, a reading from Sister Language, and tributes to Christina.
