Three editors have been named finalists for the 2026 Nancy Flight Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction Editing.

The $25,000 prize, announced in January and named for the long-time nonfiction editor who is funding the prize from 2026 to 2033, highlights the vital role editors play in shaping a manuscript. Finalists will each receive $2,500.

A jury of editors and authors comprised of Rachel Giese, Craig Pyette, and Rachel Taylor, chose the finalists from submissions representing 12 Canadian publishing imprints. The winner will be named at the Writers’ Trust Awards in Toronto on Nov. 10.

The finalists are:

  • katherena vermette for Carry Your Heart: Indigenous Helping Wisdom and the Science of Psychological Flexibility by Louis Busch (Simon & Schuster Canada)
  • George Galt for My Year in Fairyland: Grief, MAID and a Lifetime of Books by Sarah Ellis (Stonehewer Books) (Author profile)
  • Rachel Rose for Humanitarienne: A Doctor’s Stories from the Conflict Zone by Kirsten Johnson (Douglas & McIntyre)
