The Writers’ Union of Canada has announced the five finalists for this year’s Danuta Gleed Literary Award. The prize recognizes the best debut collection of English-language short fiction by a Canadian author.
The jury, comprising authors Lesley Choyce, Norma Dunning, and Djamila Ibrahim, selected the finalists from 24 collections submitted. The winner, who will be announced in June, receives $10,000 with two runners-up receiving $500 each.
The finalists are:
- Darci Bysouth, Lost Boys (Thistledown Press)
- Kat Cameron, The Eater of Dreams (Thistledown Press)
- Christy Ann Conlin, Watermark (Astoria/House of Anansi Press)
- Terry Doyle, DIG (Breakwater Books)
- Zalika Reid-Benta, Frying Plantain (Astoria/Anansi)
