Five writers have been named finalists for the 2025 Danuta Gleed Literary Award.
The prize, administered by the Writers’ Union of Canada, is awarded annually to three first collections of short fiction written in English. The winner receives $10,000 and two finalists each receive $1,000.
The jury for this year’s prize, comprised of authors Lisa Alward, Waubgeshig Rice, and Anuja Varghese, determined the five-title shortlist from 18 submitted collections.
The finalists are:
- Caitlin Galway, A Song for Wildcats (Rare Machines/Dundurn Press)
- Catherine Hunter, Seeing You Home (Signature Editions/Véhicule Press)
- Mikka Jacobsen, Good Victory (Freehand Books)
- Tracey Lindberg, The Cree Word for Love: Sâkihitowin (
HarperAvenue/Harpercollins Canada) - Leila Marshy, My Thievery of the People (Baraka Books)
The winner will be announced in June.
