Forest of Reading Awards announces second round of winners

The Ontario Library Association (OLA) and the Forest of Reading have revealed the second round of winners for the 2022 Forest of Reading Awards. The three-day ceremony, hosted by Ali Hassan, is being streamed on Curio in partnership with CBC Books.

The Forest of Reading is comprised of 10 categories, with 10 nominated titles each. Over 270,000 children read the nominated books and nearly 120,000 voted this year.

Today’s winners are:

Silver Birch Express Award
Mellybean and the Giant Monster, Mike White (Penguin Random House)

Silver Birch Fiction Award
Deadman’s Castle, Iain Lawrence (Margaret Ferguson Books (PRHC)

Yellow Cedar Award
Wild Outside: Around the World with Survivorman, Les Stroud and Andrew P. Barr, ill.; photographs, Laura Bombier (Annick Press)

Yesterday, the winners of the Blue Spruce Award, the Red Maple Award, and the White Pine Award were revealed. Tomorrow, on May 19, the winners of the French-language Forest of Reading programs (Le prix Peuplier, Le prix Mélèze, and Le prix Tamarac) will be announced.
