Forest of Reading Awards kicks off three-day ceremony with first round of winners

The Ontario Library Association (OLA) and the Forest of Reading have revealed the first round of winners for the 2022 Forest of Reading Awards. The three-day ceremony, hosted by Ali Hassan, is being streamed on Curio in partnership with CBC Books.

The Forest of Reading is comprised of 10 categories, with 10 nominated titles each. Over 270,000 children read the nominated books and nearly 120,000 voted this year.

The winners of the first three categories are:

Blue Spruce Award
Harley the Hero, Peggy Collins (Pajama Press)

Red Maple Award
The King of Jam Sandwiches, Eric Walters (Orca Book Publishers)

White Pine Award
What Unbreakable Looks Like, Kate McLaughlin (Wednesday Books (RAI))

Tomorrow, winners of the Silver Birch Express Award, the Silver Birch Fiction Award, and the Yellow Cedar Award will be announced. The winners of the French-language Forest of Reading programs (Le prix Peuplier, Le prix Mélèze, and Le prix Tamarac) will be announced on Thursday, May 19.
