Giller Foundation announces new scholarship

The Giller Foundation has partnered with Mantella Corporation to establish a scholarship for Black, Indigenous, and racialized high school graduates across Canada interested in pursuing the study of creative writing and literature.

The Giller Mantella Scholarship will award $10,000 to three students each year, the foundation announced on June 12. The program will run for three years, with the possibility of extension.

The scholarship, which will be administered by Scholarship Partners Canada, will begin accepting applications in March 2024. Applicants must identify as Black, Indigenous, or racialized, and demonstrate the merits of their academic and extracurricular achievements.

Elana Rabinovitch, executive director of the Giller Foundation, said the organization wanted to create opportunities for high school students who may not be able to access traditional financial aid or scholarships.

“We hope the scholarship will make a meaningful difference in the lives of the recipients who have a passion for writing and help them achieve their academic and career goals,” Rabinovitch said in a press release.

Mantella Corporation is a privately held, family-owned real estate and land development company in Toronto that was established in 1946.
