Iain Reid, an author and journalist based in Kingston, Ontario, has won the 2015 RBC Taylor Emerging Writer Award, which aims to promote new non-fiction writers.

Two of Reid’s titles have already been published by House of Anansi Press: One Bird’s Choice in 2010 and The Truth About Luck in 2013.

The author has two forthcoming books appearing under Simon & Schuster’s Scout imprint. The first is a philosophical thriller, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, which is to publish in summer 2016.

In addition to a $10,000 cash prize, Reid will be mentored by 2015 RBC Taylor Prize winner Plum Johnson, who selected him as this year’s winner.

Johnson, in a press release, says:

I had a natural bias towards choosing an older writer on a pension, like me, but Iain’s work smashed my bias to smithereens. Besides, he told me he already lives like a pensioner – basement apartment, communal phone, and tea at four o’clock … I’m excited to learn from Iain. We’ll be emerging together.
