Indigo and TikTok launch virtual book club

Indigo Canada is teaming up with TikTok Canada to host a virtual book club on #BookTok.

The book club launches this month, and the first title is Xiran Jay Zhao’s bestseller Iron Widow (Penguin Teen). Every month a new title and author will be announced. Each book and author will be featured in a live event hosted by Indigo that will include a Q&A. Indigo is launching the May title with an in-person event at their Indigo Metrotown store in Burnaby, B.C. The event will be streamed live to Indigo’s TikTok account. Book club content and opportunities for readers to submit questions for the author are available in the app.

The #BookTok hashtag and community have fuelled renewed popularity of backlist titles as well as proven a useful tool for librarians to connect with younger readers.

Indigo has maintained a dedicated #BookTok webpage since 2020, and all of its large-format stores feature tables with trending books.

“Partnering with TikTok is a natural fit, as readers look to both Indigo and #BookTok to help find their next great read,” Alison Lawler-Dean, VP of marketing at Indigo, said in a release.
